Over time I developed many workflows to work more efficiently with CODMs, ODFs and HW configuration files compared to editing the XML file directly. One trick is, not to work with the XML files directly but with a database (or Numbers / Excel). Unfortunately, MDA stopped to provide direct access to the internal HW MySQL databases. Editing XML files is a pain in the neck, especially when bulk changes have to be made. But luckily, there are ways around this issue :-)

After working for about two years with MySQL I recently switched to PostgreSQL, which offers a versatile XML export option. The import into the PostgreSQL database is done using an R script (R is a free statistical software). The SQL database offers extremely simple and fail save editing compared to direct XML editing. The import with R takes less than a minute, the export with a PostgreSQL script only seconds.

Everybody, who is interested in more details, should drop me a note.
